Reworked talent trees

Of 53 talents, 6 are new and 38 changed compared with Classic Era (renamed, moved or reworked). Examples of new talents:

  • Missile Barrage (Arcane, at 2/2): Gives your Arcane Blast spell a 40% chance, and your Arcane Wrath, Fireball, Frostbolt, Frost Blast, and Frostfire Bolt spells a 20% chance to reduce the channeled duration of your next Arcane Missiles spell by 50%, reduce the Mana cost by 100%, and missiles fire every 0.5 sec.
  • Heating Up (Fire, 1/1): Non-periodic critical strikes with Fireball, Frostfire Bolt, Fire Blast, and Scorch reduce the cast time of your next Pyroblast cast within 20 sec by 25%, stacking up to 3 times. Fire Blast grants an additional stack every time it deals damage.
  • Ice Lance (Frost, 1/1): Deals 28 to 32 Frost damage to an enemy target. Deals 300% increased damage to Frozen targets.

Tier list ratings

As of 1 November 2026. The tiers combine several tier lists and a level-60 simulation (median, details on the rankings page).

Reasons in brief:

  • Fire, PvE DPS (raid): Best mage in the simulation (76%).
  • Arcane, PvE DPS (raid): Unanimously A: Arcane Power opens strong burst windows, mana cost limits them.
  • Frost, PvE DPS (raid): Good control and survival (Ice Barrier) but low raid damage: 56% in the simulation, SeeMeta C, RankedBoost B.
  • Arcane, PvP (battleground/open world): Arcane Power for burst, Improved Counterspell with silence, Presence of Mind for instant casts.
  • Frost, PvP (battleground/open world): SeeMeta S: Ice Block (10 s immunity) and Ice Barrier protect casting; RankedBoost A.
  • Fire, PvP (battleground/open world): Unanimously A: Combustion burst, Impact stuns, Blast Wave slows; no defensive talent.

Beta/PTR state before the 4 November 2026 launch. The sources rely on the level-30 beta, talent analysis and simulations – there are no raid logs yet. Ratings will change after launch.

Context

The tiers above rest on the beta (capped at level 30), talent analysis and simulations – raid logs only exist once the raids open on 9 December 2026. If you want to play a Mage, pick the specialization mainly by role and feel, and read the tiers as a snapshot.

For finding groups, keep the role balance in mind: tanks and healers are usually in higher demand in dungeons and raids than damage dealers. Plan the talent tree in the talent calculator and share it with your group as a link; from level 40, dual talent specialization lets you keep two builds.
