Legacy system in WoW: Forever: points, challenges and trees

How Legacy works in World of Warcraft: Forever: 65 points from challenges, 16 active points per character, three trees with every node and the four rewards up to the Spectral Bear.

In Forever, Legacy replaces achievements. Instead of points for a collection you earn Legacy points account-wide and spend them on each character separately in three trees. The bonuses are small but noticeable – more rested experience, cheaper vendors, extra cooking results. This guide explains the rules, lists every challenge and node and shows which combinations suit which play style. Plan your build in the Legacy planner.

The rules at a glance

  • Legacy unlocks once a character reaches level 25 (default key Y).
  • 65 points can be earned at launch. The points belong to the account; every character spends them independently.
  • A character can have at most 16 points active at the same time. Additional points count towards the rewards.
  • Every rank of a node costs one point.
  • You can respec at class trainers. The cost has not been published yet.
  • Hardcore: points earned on Hardcore also count on normal realms, not the other way round. Hardcore replaces the PvP challenges with its own.

The 65 challenges

Each challenge awards exactly one point. They break down like this:

CategoryPointsWhat counts
Classes27Level 25, 45 and 60 with each of the nine classes
Professions18Skill 150, 225 and 300 in Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking and Tailoring
PvP12Honor rank 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14; Exalted with the Alterac Valley, Arathi Basin, Warsong Gulch and Darkspear Islands factions; weeks 4, 7 and 10 of the "Field of Honor" journey
Adventure2Explore every zone of Azeroth; the Lord Valthalak questline (Dungeon Set 2)
Dungeons3"Spelunker" in three steps: complete every dungeon of the matching level band
Raids3Clear Hyjal Summit and Barrow Deeps, defeat Onyxia

The biggest block is classes: if you play alts, you collect many points along the way. Gathering professions, cooking and first aid are not on the list – only the six crafting primary professions count.

The three trees

Each tree has nine slots; six of them are placeholders at launch, marked "to be added in a future update". Some nodes require 5 or 10 points already spent in the tree or a specific node at full rank. The values below are for full rank.

NodeRanksEffect (full rank)
Master Chef550% chance for an extra cooking result
Working Overtime520% higher chance for skill-ups in every profession
Bartering210% lower prices at all vendors

Luremaster250% chance for an extra fish with a lure active

Dedicated Study requires Bartering 2/2; Performance Bonus requires Bountiful Harvest 5/5.

Permanence requires Gourmand 3/3; Reagent Economy requires The Quick and the Dead 2/2 and 10 points in the tree.

What is worth it?

With 16 points you have to choose. Three examples that follow directly from the values:

  • Levelling: Well Rested 5/5 and Talented 5/5 cost 10 points together. Talented only helps characters below level 10, though – our sources do not make clear whether a new alt can use the trees before level 25. The remaining 6 points fit into Thrill of Adventure (5) and one rank of High Alert.
  • Professions and gold: Bountiful Harvest 5/5 and Performance Bonus 3/3 (8 points) speed up Merchant's Favor; add Bartering 2/2 and Working Overtime for faster skill-ups.
  • Raids and groups: Permanence doubles the duration of camp benefits – together with Field Guide (shorter cooldown) a good fit for players who set up a camp regularly. Reagent Economy saves reagents for classes such as mages, priests or druids.

Rewards

Rewards depend on the total number of points earned, not on the 16 active ones. Claim them from Innkeeper Wiley in Ratchet.

What is still open

The respec cost is unknown. The trees come from Wowhead's planner for build 1.60.1.69800, an older version than the launch client, so values may still change. That a node requires its parent node at full rank is inferred from the connections in the tree. The six placeholder nodes will only be filled by later updates.
