Cloth caster who commands demons, curses enemies and drains life. Affliction relies on damage over time, Demonology on demons, Destruction on fire and shadow nukes.

Specializations and roles
Each of the three talent trees is one specialization. There are 52 talents in total; the "new" and "changed" columns compare the Forever tree with Classic Era.
| Specialization | Role(s) | Talents | new | changed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Affliction | Damage | 17 | 5 | 12 |
| Demonology | Damage | 19 | 7 | 11 |
| Destruction | Damage | 16 | 5 | 11 |
New in Forever
New and newly trainable abilities
3 abilities are new at the class trainer or trainable for the first time:
- Bane of Agony (level 8, new): Afflicts the target with agony, causing 72 Shadow damage over 24 sec.
- Incinerate (level 50, new): Deals 146 to 168 Fire damage to your target and an additional 25% damage if the target is afflicted by Immolate.
- Bane of Doom (level 60, new): Afflicts the target with impending doom, causing 1742 Shadow damage after 1 min.
Reworked talent trees
Of 52 talents, 17 are new and 34 changed compared with Classic Era (renamed, moved or reworked). Examples of new talents:
- Soul Harvest (Affliction, at 2/2): Killing a non-trivial target afflicted by your Drain Soul increases your Mana regeneration by 100% for 10 sec and allows 100% of normal Mana regeneration to continue while casting.
- Demonic Aegis (Demonology, at 2/2): Increases the effectiveness of your Demon Skin and Demon Armor spells by 30%.
- Molten Skin (Destruction, at 5/5): Reduces all damage taken by 10%.

Tier list ratings
As of 1 November 2026. The tiers combine several tier lists and a level-60 simulation (median, details on the rankings page).
| Category | Specialization | Tier | Range | Sources |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PvE DPS (raid) | Demonology | A | B–S | 3 |
| PvE DPS (raid) | Affliction | A | A–S | 3 |
| PvE DPS (raid) | Destruction | A | A | 3 |
| PvE dungeon DPS (beta lvl 30) | Demonology | A | A–S | 3 |
| PvE dungeon DPS (beta lvl 30) | Affliction | B | B–S | 3 |
| PvE dungeon DPS (beta lvl 30) | Destruction | B | C–S | 3 |
| PvP (battleground/open world) | Demonology | A | B–S | 2 |
| PvP (battleground/open world) | Affliction | A | A | 2 |
| PvP (battleground/open world) | Destruction | B | B–A | 2 |
Reasons in brief:
- Demonology, PvE DPS (raid): Second-best spec in the simulation (79%).
- Affliction, PvE DPS (raid): SeeMeta calls Affliction the best sustained damage on long fights (Wrack, Shadow Mastery); the simulation (71%) and RankedBoost say A.
- Destruction, PvE DPS (raid): Unanimously A; SeeMeta calls the rotation demanding (Incinerate on burning targets).
- Demonology, PvP (battleground/open world): SeeMeta S: Soul Link shares 30% of damage with the demon; RankedBoost only B.
- Affliction, PvP (battleground/open world): Unanimously A: Curse of Exhaustion slows, Siphon Life heals; little burst.
- Destruction, PvP (battleground/open world): Shadowburn is instant, but most damage comes from long, interruptible casts.
Beta/PTR state before the 4 November 2026 launch. The sources rely on the level-30 beta, talent analysis and simulations – there are no raid logs yet. Ratings will change after launch.
Recommended builds
Checked builds from Forever guides (as of 2 November 2026). The links open them in the talent calculator, with reasoning, sources and point order.
- Affliction: Affliction raid (SM Ruin) (Raid, 30/0/21) – 'SM Ruin', the strongest Affliction raid build: Shadow Bolt is your filler, and the Destruction points speed up and strengthen every Shadow Bolt. Also: Affliction PvP (Soul Link) (PvP), Affliction leveling (Leveling).
- Demonology: Demonology PvE (Fire) (Raid, 2/31/18) – The 'Fire' variant is slightly ahead in long fights and with Fire or general spell-power gear, and it is the safer pick with adds or in dungeons, since Rain of Fire and Hellfire benefit; the guide uses it for dungeons too. Also: Demonology PvP (PvP), Demonology leveling (Leveling).
- Destruction: Destruction raid (Sayaad) (Raid, 14/4/33) – The 'Sayaad' build, strongest if your demon survives: the Sayaad fights in melee and the leftover points go into Affliction for hit and stronger DoTs. Also: Destruction PvP (Soul Link/Conflagrate) (PvP), Destruction leveling (solo) (Leveling).
Context
The tiers above rest on the beta (capped at level 30), talent analysis and simulations – raid logs only exist once the raids open on 9 December 2026. If you want to play a Warlock, pick the specialization mainly by role and feel, and read the tiers as a snapshot.
For finding groups, keep the role balance in mind: tanks and healers are usually in higher demand in dungeons and raids than damage dealers. Plan the talent tree in the talent calculator and share it with your group as a link; from level 40, dual talent specialization lets you keep two builds.
